it’s a shame…

that the camera is broke.

I would love to show you pictures from the Llama farm. And from when Emily and I dyed fabric (most awesome adventure). And from my birthday. Oh and since I have the week off I completely rearranged and redecorated my house(again) but you can’t see that because the stupid orange camera died. Michael did it, he confessed.

P.S. Sewing night is on like Donkey Kong tonight….bring snacks, meet me in the basement…(yep! In the basement)

Evolution of a Sewing Studio

In my efforts to clean, organize and declutter so that I have a more peaceful simpler life I concentrated my efforts on m sewing space. It really needed some attention especially since the Lusty Ladies come over on Tuesdays to sew. This room was a wreck!

When I first started reallying getting into sewing I carved a little space out in Michael’s home office. He didn’t really want to share the space but since he has his real office NEXT DOOR I didn’t really care, he can share. I have an art studio downstairs but I wanted a separate space for sewing upstairs. I am spoiled I know. This what my first humble little space looked like…

And my “stash” in the beginning…..

more fabric
Then I decided I needed more space since I acquired more stuff like to sew with friends. So one weekend we moved Michael’s junk home office down stairs and my sewing room into the guest room. We turned the small room that had housed my sewing stuff and Michael’s junkhome office into the guest room. It made more sense that way. We don’t have people sleep over all that much so the smallest room would be fine for guests and I sew all the time (and have a lot of stuff) so the other room would work better since it has way more space. This is what happened….. (yes, I am properly embarrassed to be showing my pig sty over the internet, I hope my aunt never sees this)

Junk piled everywhere! The space was barely usable…. so I spent this weekend doing this…

Made a rack for my favorite fabrics…. My Heather Ross, Sandi Henderson, Heather Bailey, Amy Butler and Joel Dewberry are now stacked according to designer.
My Ottobres (Eurpoean pattern magaizes for my non sewing friends) and other Eurpoean patterns are in the leather box on top. The other container has finished crocheted fruit.

The bookshelf houses my knit fabrics and fat quarter sets in the boxes. I LOVE that fushia vase. I drove from Detroit to WI with it in my front seat wrapped in bubble wrap and comforters. Thread is stored on top of the white shelf (obviously) and inside that white pantry thing is batting, denim, twill, fleece and other misc fabric. I once foolishly said I wouldn’t ever have more fabric then could fit in the white pantry…..I was such a novice.

Bernie is on her table (that I found at a thrift store. I thought it would be perfect for Michael’s Hamm radio stuff but he wasn’t using it so I stole it back)
I got that oak cabinet from Brenda who wasn’t going to use it in her new apartment (Thanks Sugar!) It has lots of room and fit that corner well.

I even organized inside it! Sewing notions, Embroidery modual, Camera equipement and patterns….in that order. On the antique vanity bench is my yarn stash…. I am still looking for a better option (prettier) option to store this. Especially since I will be bring back the vanity that goes with that bench from Tennessee after Thanksgiving. It was in Michael’s grandma’s bedroom when she was a girl. Michael’s mother also used it when she was a teenager. I love the history and can’t wait to pass it down to my daughter.

I have always felt so guilty piling so much junk on top of this cabinet. Most people do not realize that there is a treasure inside. One I should be using.

Suzette my Singer 201. I literally came home and found her on my porch one day. She is gorgeous, is in great working condition and has all her parts! My manual is from 1934.

And my Ikea shelf that holds the rest of my fabric. My cutting mat lives on the top although I do my cutting in the kitchen on the counter since it is much better on my back.
Now that it is clean and organized Michael said he would consider painting. But I might recruite the Lusty ladies to paint. I am thinking an olive color but that could change. I am waiting on fabric to arrive to make matching curtains and have a couple paintings in process to make the space look awesome….. But for now I am happy it is at least useable and tidy!

Operation Static Monkey revealed!

So we had a lovely time on Tuesday night! There was lots of laughing, drinking and carrying on…I believe a great time was had by all.

Here are the “Public” pictures of that evening…. we also have some “private” ones that were a result of cheap box wine and extreme comfort with one another…

Christin is happy

Our Beautiful birthday girl…

What could it be?

What could it be?  Operation Static monkey….

Christin and Carla getting to know each other...

Introducing Carla! Christin was the only Lusty Lady with out a sewing machine machine so we had to remedy that!

The other "lushy" Lusty ladies

The LUSHY ladies!

All for me...

Time for cake. Does she think if she licks it no one else will want to eat it??? Yeah right…we totally eat after each other all the time.

Yummy

It was such a great night! And we even managed to get a little sewing accomplished…

Operation Static Monkey

I am so excited becasue tomorrow is craft night and we have a special surprised arranged for Christin aka Static Monkey. Her birthday was last week and the Lusty Ladies haven’t had a chance to celebrate. I can’t revel the surprise just yet but I will be serving this

 Turtle Cheesecake

And I am sure copious amounts of wine will also be served. I wish I had time to make another dessert also since Tweet is insane and does not eat cheesecake but alas time is always something short in supply.

I love doing nice things for my friends and so I am busting with excitement! It is very difficult not to just come out with the secret so it is a good thing Christin is off today. I just have to get through tomorrow….

Sewing Circle Night

Was rescheduled from our usual Tuesday night due to my poor neglected husband. So we are having it tonight while Michael is out with friends. I have high hopes for getting things accomplished tonight. My goal is to get Tilena’s Yellow Brick road all cut out…. doesn’t seem like too much but I will also be socializing and acting up with the lusty ladies. But my fingers are crossed

Yesterday I was off and man was I busy. Let us recap poor Crys’ day off

got up at six to go to gym but realized sleeping would be more fun….

got up again at 8 to go to work…yes, it was my day off but I showed up for 3 hours of OT

Got off at noon and met Mr. Michael for lunch at the wooden chair which is this quirky and cute little restaurant here. Michael got the same thing he always does which is Eggs Benedict and I got the crabby guy (crab salad on english muffin) and tomato basil soup (which was no where near as good as Cheese Louis’ tomatoe basil)

Then it was off to the eye dr for both of us. Michael wanted new glasses and its was about time. I might have run my glasses over with my car…again…but let’s not discuss that. We both found cute frames. I could not decide which contact I wanted and since I still have a few pair at home I decided to wait.

Then I drove to Wausau to meet Brenda for some shopping and dinner in honor of her birthday. She turned 30 and I mocked her. I am glad I am not 30 yet (just kidding, sort of) … I have decided to go backwards and turn 27 again. I picked Brenda’s fall wardrobe out for her and then we went to Texas Roadhouse for dinner. The food there is ok but I am so not into the “throw the peanut shells on the floor” thing. AT ALL…. I put mine in the extra bucket but then the waiter came along and took out shell bucket and dumped it on the floor. Good Grief!

When I got home it was late (I missed Ace of Cakes) and Bucky was there. Bucky is the dog we dog sat for then stole. Dawn (his mother) has agreed to joint custody. We love him, he is so much fun. Except he thinks its his right to pick his spot first in bed….and yes he just assumed that was where he would be sleeping. I am not use to having a dog (albiet a small one) in bed with me.

Now for this crappy day at work to be over so I can go and get my “sew on”

P.S. I am sooooo glad Leanne won Project Runway. Although I also loved Korto. Actually I sould say I am sooo glad Kensley DID NOT win…she sucks and has a bad attitude.

Lustly Ladies Quest for Knowledge

A.K.A The Book Club…. It consist of Katie, Christin, Barbara, Melissa and me. Actually Michael also thinks he is part of the book club but he comes up a little short in the lusty lady department. The book club started out as a way to make friends with girls I already liked at work and to stimulate our minds. The first book we read was The Time Traveler’s Wife by Audrey Niffenegger. Everyone thought it was an amazing read. We met at my house and for dinner I prepared and spinach and bacon salad, kirschwasser swiss cheese fondue and chocolate fondue and cheesecake. We had an amazing night. We selected to read Persepolis for our second selection. Photos from our fabulous soiree.

Now our little book club has big ideas. So instead of just reading books and chatting about them over a good bottle of wine (which would be the easy way to do it) we decided to take a book club field trip to Europe and to fund our trip by selling our homemade wares. I will keep you posted on how that goes but do check out www.Gnomehome.wordpress.com to support the cause.
