Since my dear friend Static Monkey offered to quilt the turning twenty quilt for me (she actually enjoys that process) I am back to working on my star blocks. By the way I totally under estimated the number of blocks needed for each quilt…..I though 10 but it is closer to 13…. Oh well, I have time.
Block 5 is probably the hardest pieced block I’ve done so far. It doesn’t look that challenging but it definately made me think….and rip lots of seams. Which is why I only have the purple done to show you….that and Emily was hogging Bernie even though we have more then one sewing machine down here….She quilted her gorgeous pink, black and white quilt. I can’t wait to see that one finished.
On to my purple block
and a closer look at the fabrics….
Until the start of our church campaign and revival! Which will last until the 17th. I am so excited but also stressed out. I still have to get my house cleaned properly as we will be having guests stay with us. Michael has been a great help but you know how it goes with fellows….I have to go back and touch it up some. I don’t usually do that since I don’t want him to feel what he does isn’t good enough or that he can just do a crap job and I will fix it but with company coming all bets are off.
I am off today and tomorrow and will be trying to get the bulk of it done….I keep getting distracted though…
While I was working this last week evil elves came over and made a total mess in my sewing room. I am stuck cleaning it up which doesn’t seem fair as obviously I didn’t make such a mess. I attempted to bribe Emily with junk food and root beer to clean it up but apparently easy mac and chocolate does not buy very much clean up time with her. She is now hogging Bernie and I am blogging…the room is still a wreck…
I had to put my star blocks on hold and whip up a new quilt for the twin bed we got for the other guest room….
I am not quite finished (actually I still have a lot to go) I need to add boarders…I was hoping it was big enough with out them but it’s not. I used my hoarded Heather Bailey Freshcuts and the Turning Twenty Again pattern for those of you curious about these things.
Also I found this nice oak headboard at a local thrift store for $10.00
Also I need to give Christin and Michael a shout out for painting the guest room a gorgeous robin’s egg blue. How amazing is Christin for coming over while I was at work and painting with my husband. I have the best friends!
She is also adorable and hilarious! P.S. the pictures do not do the paint color justice, it is beautiful in real life. The pictures make it look so washed out.
I also rescued these abandoned treasures from the local thrift store and am in the process of giving them new life and a whole lot of style…..stay tuned
I am off this weekend and hope to be very productive….
I finished 2 more block in each color for my Star quilts. The urge to buy a little fabric is strong but I am resisting…MUST.LEARN.SELF.CONTROL.
Here are the purple blocks. I have surprising little purple in my stash. I found that curious.
This looks black in the photo but in reality it a grogeous deep purple batik I snitched off of Emily.
And here are the Blue blocks
I cut into my precious fish fabric!
My goal is to finish block 5 tomorrow. I will also need to make 10 “setting” blocks for each. I believe the setting blocks are a nine patch variation. I will alternate the stars with the setting block to make the quilt top. So after I have block 5 done I will be half way and I will take a break and make 5 setting blocks in each color. I need to break it up some because making muliples of the same block bores me to tears. I will need a total of 20 setting blocks..ugh.
In Bird news Piper has been grumpy the last day or so. She might not be adjusting so well to all the attention Sami is getting. Sami, on the other hand finds it hilarious to land on people’s heads. Michael bought a book on Conures and it attempting to train her but apparently she prefers me for some reason. We will see how this goes.
I want to give a shout out to the lurkers who popped out of the virtual woodwork the other day to say hi when I was being pissy. Thank you. I am feeling much better.
Time to start getting the Christmas quilting tackled. I am starting two full sized quilts. They will actually be from the same quilt-a-long/pattern but in different fabric. It is the star quilt-a-long from Crazy Mom Quilt’s Blog (which I love)
I have the first two start blocks done for each. They aren’t perfect but I haven’t cut off any corners yet….
The blue will be for Becca and the purple will be for my In laws
Now here is the real challenge….I can not buy any fabric. I have to use fabric from my stash (or from the stash of my friends)
And here is Michael with his new best friend.
But I am not coughing up $50.00 for parrot training DVDS. He will have to ask Santa (or his Mama) for those.
His name is Sami. A friend gave him to us. Actually they also gave us a cockatiel but we passed him on to Bryce. We have plenty of birds at McKissick Manor now and the cockatiel’s name was Snappy. Need I say more?
Sami has a lot of personality and is very curious. Piper and him have already become fast friends.
He doesn’t look all that big but when he spreads his wings Holy Shitake!!!! He is an impressive creature. He is also very noisy and loves attention.
Michael is so happy! No more pets at the Manor.
